AMMAN (Reuters) - A Jordanian woman has received formal divorce papers 42 years after her husband left, and long after she remarried and had children, the official Petra news agency says.

The 68-year-old man divorced his wife verbally in 1962, but only registered his new marital status two weeks ago, when he needed to apply for an official identity card, Petra said.
In Islam, a man is considered divorced from his wife after declaring it to her verbally three times.
The man filed formal divorce papers only after a civil servant dealing with his ID card application asked for proof that he was no longer wed to his former wife. "

Yahoo! News - Drunk dad asks 11-year-old son to drive: "Wed Mar 10, 2:40 PM ET

DALLAS (Reuters) - A Texas man did the drinking and decided to let his 11-year-old son, who was barely able to see over the steering wheel, do the driving, police said.

Police said on Wednesday they had arrested Robert Lee Crider on charges of child endangerment, public intoxication and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
Crider's son was pulled over by a Texas state trooper outside of the west Texas town of Big Spring in the predawn hours of Saturday after the officer saw the car speeding and weaving through traffic, said Sargeant Jason Hester, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Crider apparently was taking his son home for the weekend as a part of a custody arrangement with his ex-wife. Crider and a friend stopped off at a bar with the boy, and when the two adults became too drunk to drive, they handed the keys of the rental car over to the boy.
The boy was pulled over just as the group started on a trip of some 200 miles to Crider's home. They had passed several motels before they were stopped by the trooper, Hester said.
Police fed the boy a grilled cheese sandwich, found a mattress for him to sleep on and called his mother, who picked him up and drove him back to her home. "

Yahoo! News - 81-year-old jailed for killing ill husband: "Fri Mar 12,10:03 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - An 81-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years in prison after she admitted killing her husband because she was tired of caring for him.

Audrey Hingston told police last year that her 83-year-old husband Eric was stabbed to death as he confronted burglars at the couple's home in Devon, southwest England.
She then changed her story, saying he had committed suicide, but later admitted she killed him.
The prosecution accepted Hingston's manslaughter plea on grounds of diminished responsibility, a Plymouth Crown Court spokeswoman said on Friday.
The court heard that Eric Hingston, who was found dead in August 2003, suffered from heart problems and asthma. "

Yahoo! News - Sleeping burglary suspect startles victims: "Thu Mar 25, 2:33 PM ET

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - An Oklahoma couple were surprised when they woke up and found a drunk burglary suspect asleep in bed with them, police say.

The couple from the south Oklahoma city of Ardmore called police, ran out of their house and watched officers arrest the man who was still sleeping in their bed despite the sirens and commotion, police said.
Dan Johnson, 24, was arrested on the scene in the incident that took place on Sunday and was charged with burglary.
Officer Chad Anthony said in his arrest report that it took quite an effort to rouse the suspect from a deep slumber.
'After about two to three minutes, Johnson stood up. I saw that he was very intoxicated,' he wrote.
The report said Johnson was found with a cell phone belonging to one of the victims in his pocket and $4 in cash, also apparently stolen.
Johnson is suspected of kicking down a door at the residence and also trying to gain entry by using garden trimmers to pry open a door, the report said.
Police said the couple told officers a man they did not know had fallen asleep in bed with them.

Yahoo! News - Fla. Teacher Accused of Killing RabbitsWed Mar 24, 4:49 PM ET
PLANT CITY, Fla. - A high school science teacher killed a pair of sickly rabbits with a shovel as her stunned class looked on, then asked the students to help bury the day-old animals, authorities said.
Plant City High School teacher Jane Bender will not face criminal charges, but authorities brought two civil counts of animal cruelty that carry fines of $620.
Investigators said Bender killed the rabbits last month and buried them in a field near the school's agricultural lab with two others from the same litter that had died. The rabbits — about the size of chicken eggs — were not likely to survive on their own.
Bender told investigators that she asked a student to dig a hole, but the class refused to help in burying the rabbits, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Rod Reder said.
"We felt this person had to be held accountable. It's just not what we want to teach people to do with injured or sick animals," county Animal Services investigator Dennis McCullough said Tuesday.
Calls to phone numbers listed to a Jane Bender in Plant City and nearby Tampa went unanswered Wednesday.
The civil penalties require Bender to pay $310 for each count, or request a court hearing where she can appeal the fine.

Yahoo! News - Teens Caught Chasing Antelope in Wyoming: "Thu Mar 25,10:50 AM ET

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Six teenagers were cited for harassment. The victim? A herd of antelope.

'I watched them do it,' said South Gillette Game Warden John Schneidmiller, who was driving on Interstate 90 when he spotted the teenagers in a sport utility vehicle giving chase to the animals. 'They were definitely harassing the antelope.'
The driver was ticketed for harassing big game animals with a vehicle, which carries a $410 fine. The five passengers were given warning citations. Their names were not released.
Schneidmiller said antelope in the area are physically vulnerable and that harassment of this sort could cause serious injury or death to the animals.
'In the drought that we're in, the antelope are so stressed to begin with that they don't need additional stress,' he said.
Schneidmiller also noted the danger the driver created for himself and his passengers by zigzagging off-road around the herd.
'They almost rolled their vehicle,' he said. 'I watched them, they were up on two wheels a couple times.'
While similar incidents are often reported to the state Game and Fish Department wardens, it is rare to actually catch someone in the act, Schneidmiller said. "

Yahoo! News - Man With Stolen Check Leaves LicenseThu Mar 25,10:59 AM ET
HARRISON, Ark. - Police had no trouble tracking down a man who tried to cash a stolen check at a Harrison bank.
After the teller, a policeman's wife, recognized the check as stolen, the man took off from a drive-through window — and left his driver's license behind.
Steven Allen Miller, 39, pleaded innocent last Friday to charges of theft of property and breaking and entering.
Police said Miller broke into a man's car and stole a cell phone, police scanner, 80 music CDs and a $243 check on Feb. 29. The next day, police say, he went to a bank and tried to cash the check at a drive-through window.
The clerk instructed the man to step inside because she needed identification beyond the driver's license that he had submitted with the check. Instead of entering the bank, Miller drove off.
Police found Miller at the address listed on his license.
