Shotgun Goes Off at Auction, Shooting Two - Yahoo! News: "Thu May 11, 9:27 PM ET
BELLEVUE, Iowa - An auction to benefit a family whose home burned down went off with a bang. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. Darrell Clasen and John Moellers were both shot when a 10-gauge shotgun accidentally discharged at the auction on Sunday.
Police said a 10-year-old boy put a shell in the gun, which was on a table of things to be auctioned. A man later picked up the gun and it discharged, police said.
Moellers was hit in the shoulder. Clasen was struck in the arm. Both men were taken to a the hospital where they were treated and released.
Clasen said he heard the gun go off.
'It was loud,' he said. 'I could see the smoke from the gun and then I felt it. It didn't hurt, but it was like a burning sensation.'
Clasen said both he and Moellers were going to be OK. He said no one is holding a grudge.
'Everybody learned a lesson,' he said.
There were about 200 people at the benefit and the boy apparently was able to put the shell in the gun unnoticed because of the noise of the crowd, police said.
The benefit was being held for a family whose home burned down last month."

Burglar gives massage to victim - Yahoo! News: "Fri May 12, 9:03 AM ET
TOKYO (Reuters) - How about a little relaxation with your robbery?
A burglar gave a 35-year-old woman a shoulder massage for several hours after breaking into her apartment in central Tokyo and tying her up, police were quoted as saying Friday.
He stole 210,000 yen ($1,900) in cash and her bank cash card, though he later mailed the card to her as she requested after withdrawing 980,000 yen from her account, Kyodo news agency said.
It said Lee Jin-se, 29, a South Korean, admitted the burglary and told police he lingered in the woman's apartment and gave her the massage 'to relax her.'
Police believe Lee waited there until business hours began for bank cash machines, virtually none of which operate around-the-clock in Japan, Kyodo said.
A police spokesman confirmed the robbery but declined to comment on the reported massage. He said the woman did not appear to have been physically assaulted."

It's a miracle! : "Fri May 12, 9:03 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A wheelchair-bound Los Angeles woman, who has repeatedly filed lawsuits over access for the disabled, got up and ran after police arrested her for fraud, authorities said on Thursday.
Laura Lee Medley, 35, had sued in at least four California cities over injuries she claimed she sustained while trying to navigate her wheelchair before she was suspected of fraud.
Medley, who claimed to be paralyzed from a drunk driving accident, was tracked to Las Vegas where police there took her into custody and then, when she complained of medical issues, to a local hospital, Long Beach prosecutor Belinda Mayes said.
'She gets to the hospital and while she's waiting for an examination, she gets up from the chair and runs,' Mayes said. 'Somebody remarked, 'That's where the great miracle occurred.''
Medley sprinted through the hospital corridors but was quickly apprehended by police and booked pending extradition to San Bernardino, southern California, where she is facing charges of filing false documents, attempted grand theft and insurance fraud.
Medley has sued the cities of Long Beach and South Pasadena and counties of San Bernardino and Riverside over various injuries she claimed she sustained in her wheelchair. She was also being sought on arrest warrants by the states of Oregon and Washington, Mayes said. "

4 Arrested in Pot Burglary Attempt - Yahoo! News: "Fri May 12, 10:09 PM ET
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Four men were arrested Friday for investigation of trying to burgle a medical marijuana clinic after someone used a garden hose to climb down from the roof, authorities said.
The men, whose identities were not immediately released, were arrested without incident and did not manage to steal any pot, sheriff's Detective Sylvia Arreseigor said.
A deputy responded to a burglar alarm at The Farmacy medical marijuana dispensary about 5:45 a.m., where he saw someone inside the closed shop and called for backup, Arreseigor said.
The burglar apparently cut open a metal grate on top of the roof and used a garden hose to lower himself down, she said.
Three other men were arrested when deputies stopped a car that tried to drive away from the clinic, the detective said.
Workers at the dispensary could not immediately be reached for comment Friday because the its telephone number was listed as temporarily unavailable.
California voters in 1996 approved marijuana for medical use with a doctor's recommendation."
