BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham police said a 22-year-old woman has suffered a broken leg after being hit by a train. Officer Lawrence Billups said the woman told police she was lying on the tracks 'to clear her mind' when the train approached around 7 a.m. Sunday.
Billups said the CSX train was moving about 10 mph when it hit her. The train's operator told police he tried to stop.
The woman was transported to UAB Hospital."

CINCINNATI – Police said a man broke into a Cincinnati home and proceeded to stay there for a week, watching television and sleeping in the master bedroom while the family was on vacation. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department arrested 19-year-old Nicholas Truesdell on Friday and charged him with burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
An affadavit said he broke into the four-bedroom home through a rear window on June 16. Authorities said he also used the computer and drove the family's 2007 Nissan Altima around for more than 48 hours.
Truesdell was arraigned on Saturday. No contact information could be found for his attorney, Terrence McNamara."

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Columbia police have captured an inmate who allegedly escaped from the Howard County jail using a cardboard toilet paper holder. Curtis Jones of New Franklin was captured Wednesday afternoon.
Columbia police officers, who were responding to a tip, went to where Jones was believed to be located, but he had fled on foot. Jones was spotted a short time later and taken into custody.
Jones had escaped early Monday. Authorities allege he used the folded cardboard to jam a door lock to his cell and fled when a jailer went to another area in the building.
Jones was detained on a theft charge on suspicion of stealing anhydrous ammonia, a chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine.
He previously escaped in 1996 from the county's old jail in Fayette by climbing through a hole in the ceiling."

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) – Canadian police were on the search on Monday for a brazen thief who snatched a take-away meal while making a naked run past a fast food restaurant's drive-though window.
An employee of a Langley, British Columbia, Wendy's restaurant was handing food to a customer waiting in her car when a naked man ran between them, taking off with her fries, and leaving little evidence behind, according to police.
'Other than an age range, neither woman could provide further description,' police said in a press release.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, jumped into a waiting van, which sped away from the scene during the weekend incident, police said."

The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site Wednesday that the 24-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to his face and shoulder. Police said the victim's girlfriend awoke around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to find her boyfriend urinating in the closet. He was intoxicated when he arrived at his apartment several hours earlier.
Police said the man had a history of sleepwalking and ignored his girlfriend's repeated efforts to wake him up.
He pushed her out of the way as he walked toward the kitchen, and she reportedly became scared that he might hit her.
Police said she grabbed a knife and held it up as he approached. He sustained injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening."

Police say Michael Buck faces a felony obscenity charge and two misdemeanors for the May 31 stunt at his upscale Phoenixville home.
The 27-year-old Buck has a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month. He doesn't have a listed telephone number, and his lawyer declined to comment Wednesday.
Detective Tom Goggin says Buck had filed one previous complaint about the neighborhood children. He says the children clearly annoy Buck — but there's nothing criminal about playing outside."

Sgt. Todd Bullock says 45-year-old Stephen Murdoch of Tustin was arrested early Tuesday after a security guard spotted him in a workout room that was supposed to be closed and locked.
When police peered inside, they saw Murdoch — also in a miniskirt, fishnet stockings and heels — hiding behind exercise equipment and watching an adult film on a laptop.
Officers noticed Murdoch was sweating profusely and talking quickly. They arrested him on suspicion of drug possession after allegedly finding marijuana, methamphetamine and pipes in his bag.
Murdoch did not return a call seeking comment Wednesday."

HONOLULU – Oahu firefighters have been issued a reminder to be sure to turn off cooking equipment when responding to emergencies. The advice comes in the wake of a May 22 blaze at the Waipahu fire station that caused about $25,000 damage. Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said food was inadvertently left cooking on a stove when the firefighters responded to an emergency call involving a traffic accident.
He said after finishing the call, the firefighters responded to a call at their own station house.
Seelig said like everyone else, firefighters need to be careful and attentive when cooking.
According to Seelig, the fire caused smoke and heat damage, primarily to kitchen areas that had been scheduled for renovation. He said the damage has been repaired."

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Police in Syracuse said a woman who was annoyed that a police car was blocking her own car first called 911 and then vandalized the squad car. Police said the woman called 911 Saturday to report the 'emergency' — that a patrol car was blocking her car. They said she then keyed the patrol car because they didn't move it quickly enough.
Officers were in the area to investigate a harassment complaint. They said the woman approached them and insisted they move their cruiser. They told her to wait.
Police said the woman approached them again and demanded they move the car, using profanity.
Witnesses said she then used her keys to vandalize the car.
Police found gouges on the car and the woman was charged with criminal mischief."
