LONDON (Reuters) - British police arrested a 15-year-old Australian boy at London's Heathrow airport on Monday after he tried to board a flight with firecrackers hidden in his shoes.
After ruling out any terror implications, police released him a few hours later with just a caution.
One police source said it may have been a prank or that the boy was trying to hide the fireworks from his mother, who was traveling with him.
The boy was stopped at the central security search point in Heathrow's Terminal Four as he headed on to a British Airways flight. Security staff discovered two firecrackers in each of his shoes.
"The boy, an Australian national, was arrested and taken to West Drayton police station. He was later released after being given a caution," a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said.
The boy was not identified by police as he is a juvenile.
