Street Vendor Sets Cop on Fire

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) - A street vendor in the busy center of Rio de Janeiro set fire to a police officer in broad daylight after his umbrellas were confiscated, police said on Thursday.
"The vendor ran after the police car, poured alcohol on one officer through the open window and threw a match," a duty official at the municipal police force said.
The officer suffered severe burns to his face and chest, and another one inside the car was lightly injured. The vendor fled in the mayhem that followed, police said.
The violence occurred on Wednesday during a routine police clampdown on illegal street vendors swarming in the city center. Some shots were fired in the air during the operation and some vendors were arrested.
